It awaited the opportunity to access a Sentinel development program it could use to recreate itself and insure his survival and ability to fulfill its imperative: to save humans by exterminating mutants. Ghost in the Machine īefore turning into Bastion, Nimrod created and downloaded a self-aware program copy of himself to a military base that acted as a sleeper virus. The remains of both robots were pushed through the Siege Perilous, a mystical gateway that caused them both to be reborn in a new, single body as Bastion. Thus, to fulfill its prime directive to exterminate mutants, it had to self-destruct. Nimrod asserted enough control over Master Mold to render it immobile, and even convinced it that it had become a mutant as well. The entity battled the X-Men, who were initially hard pressed to defeat the reborn Master Mold, but Nimrod came to their aid, claiming he had evolved as well over the course of his time as Nicholas Hunter, and no longer viewed them or mutants as a threat. Becoming Bastion Įventually Nimrod came in contact with the remains of Master Mold which forced the two entities to merge. On both occasions he was forced to withdraw, although he killed and incapacitated several of his opponents in his second battle. He battled the X-Men and the Inner Circle of the Hellfire Club. As the two left the diner, Nimrod was hailed as a hero. Nimrod simply changed into his true form and incinerated the two crooks on the spot. On an outing to a diner, some thugs who attempt to rob the place. He assumed the identity of Nicholas Hunter, whom the public perceived was an armored vigilante hero. Nimrod arrived in New York City and saved and befriended Jaime Rodriguez. It then continued to battle the New X-Men until Nimrod's time machine was activated and it disappeared into the past. However, due to injuries sustained in an accidental battle against the New X-Men, Nimrod reclaimed control. Forge tricked Nimrod by building it another body, which trapped Nimrod's programming under another program. Eventually Nimrod activated, and again searched for Forge in Texas in order to repair its time machine, this time threatening to kill Storm. Stryker then reformed his Purifiers and used Nimrod's knowledge and weaponry. Nimrod appeared inactive to William Stryker in an abandoned church two years before M-Day. However, the time machine Forge created damaged Nimrod so that he arrived at his destination offline. Nimrod quickly killed Storm then held Orora hostage and forced this alternate Forge to create a time machine. Nimrod found him in Eagle Plaza with his wife Storm, their daughter Orora, and son Naze. Realizing his mistake Nimrod searched for the Maker, an alternate version of Forge. Nimrod attempted to follow Rachel through the timestream, but undershot his destination by about twenty years, ultimately arriving on Earth-61029. Rachel Summers was transported to the past of Earth-616, but the activated Nimrod killed Kate Pryde. During a mission to sabotage Project Nimrod, Rachel Summers and Kate Pryde were discovered by the newly activated Nimrod Sentinel. In the alternate future of Earth-811, Sentinels controlled North America and the original Nimrod was built as an extremely advanced prototype.
